Q: My physician said I need 3 visits per week for 4 weeks. Do I really need to do physical therapy for 12 visits?

A: No. In fact, we frequently see patients only once a week for 4 weeks. It is common for a physician to suggest 3 visits a week for 4 weeks no matter the reason they are sending you to physical therapy. Keep in mind that they are just making a suggestion and have not even had a chance to see the results of your physical therapy evaluation. The amount of physical therapy you need will be determined during the first evaluation. It will depend on the type of tissue involved (muscle, ligament, tendon, spine disc, nerve, etc.), the severity of your condition and how long you have had the condition.

Q: What should I expect for my first visit with El Paso Manual Physical Therapy?

A: Your physical therapist will conduct an extensive history of your condition and then take measurements and perform hands-on tests. Then your condition will be explained to you so that you and your physical therapist can develop a treatment plan. Various treatment techniques and interventions will be implemented with emphasis on manual therapy and continuous education to empower clients in self management of symptoms and continuous independent self care. An individualized home exercise program along with recommendations for follow-up physical therapy and potential referrals will be discussed as appropriate for the client’s goals.

Q: What should I expect from follow up visits with El Paso Manual Physical Therapy?

A: Through continuous re-evaluation, imbalance specific manual therapy and fine-tuning of client’s home exercise prescription we achieve quicker results. Client’s self-initiative and compliance results in immediate change and progress within 2-6 sessions depending on condition and symptoms.

Q: How should I prepare for my visit?

A: Make sure you complete the following:

  • Get a prescription for physical therapy
  • Contuct El Paso Manual Physical Therapy to schedule an appointment for an initial evaluation
  • Complete intake form available here  after scheduling an appointment
  • Call your insurance company to understand how your out-of-network benefits work. Here’s a form that will help you with that.

Q: What is manual physical therapy?

A. Manual physical therapy is the use of hands-on techniques for the treatment of joint and muscle related aches and pains. It is repeatedly shown in clinical research studies to make physical therapy treatments more effective when combined with exercise. Techniques include specific joint manipulation (joint popping), joint mobilization and strategic massage-like techniques.

Q: Do I need a referral or prescription for El Paso Manual Physical Therapy?

A: By Texas law, you are required to have a referral or prescription for physical therapy in order to begin treatment with any physical therapist. A prescription may be given to you by any physician, nurse practitioner, physician’s assistant, podiatrist, dentist or chiropractor from any state. If you are unsure if you will benefit from therapy, we can evaluate you without a prescription but we will not be able to provide treatment until we receive a prescription to treat you.

Q: What are my payment options?

A: We accept online payments here. Cash, check or credit card (VISA, MasterCard, Discover, AMEX) can be accepted at time of service. You can use your flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA) too.

Q: Do you accept insurance?

A: In order to provide you with unrestricted one-on-one, in-home treatment, we must remain out-of-network with all insurance companies. If you would like, we will help you submit to your insurance as an out-of-network provider. Most insurances will accept application for reimbursement for out-of-network physical therapy providers. This means that you can get paid back all or at least some of your money from your own insurance company depending on your deductible. Your healthcare expenses invested in El Paso Manual Physical Therapy may still be applied to your deductible once submitted to your insurance. Q: Will my insurance reimburse for El Paso Manual Physical Therapy services?

A: Yes, in most cases you will be able to use your insurance for our services. How much you get reimbursed depends on your specific insurance plan and your deductible. We recommend that you call your insurance provider to find out the details of reimbursement for out-of-network physical therapy services. A receipt for therapy services will be issued so that you may submit a claim through your insurance.

Q. I have Medicare, can I be seen by El Paso Manual Physical Therapy?

A. Unfortunately, El Paso Manual Physical Therapy is not accepting Medicare patients due to restrictions in federal law that prevent physical therapists from treating for “normally covered services” and accepting up front payment. This issue is saddening, and we hope that it will change in the near future.
